What is the CQ Magazine?

The CQ Magazine, formerly known as CQ Weekly, is known as the pre-eminent resource for Congress-watchers who need non-partisan information on Capitol Hill. The award-winning magazine's legislative news and analysis is consistently hailed for its accuracy and comprehensiveness. The CQ Magazine on the Web includes access to the full text of all articles published since 1983. A user may browse through articles in the current issue or search for past articles by words, dates, subjects or other criteria. The Web service also provides users with access to some CQ Magazine articles prior to when they are available in print.

How do I find what I am looking for on CQ Magazine?

This Web site is designed to provide you with multiple points of access to the information that you want. On the right hand navigation bar, you can use the following options:

  • You can select a topic from the current issue
  • You can view votes from the last 10 days by selecting "Latest Votes"
  • You can search "Articles" or "Search Floor Votes"
  • You can browse by issue date or by topic

Should I browse or search?

It depends on what you are looking for. If you are looking for general information on a common or broad topic—such as Energy or Defense-you might want to begin with a browse of the topical list. If you do not find what you want, then turn to the Search option.

On the other hand, if your interest is more specific—for example, congressional debate related to employee drug testing or a particular endangered species, such as the spotted owl--you might want to begin with a search.

How do I cite an article I found in CQ Magazine?

To create a bibliographic citation of an article accessed in CQ Magazine, select CiteNow!™ a unique tool in the CQ Press Electronic Library that, with a couple mouse clicks, generates a citation based on your choice of four guides to citing online sources:

What is an RSS feed and how do I use this feature?

RSS (Really Simple Syndication) feeds provide an easy way to stay up-to-date on a website's changes without frequently visiting the site itself. With an RSS reader, users can easily view the latest additions to a website and link directly to that content. The internet browser that you are using may have a built-in RSS reader or you may want to consult the web to find an RSS reader that suits your needs. To get started, click on the orange RSS button in the upper right-hand corner of the CQ Magazine Online homepage. Depending on your RSS reader you may be automatically prompted to add the CQ Magazine feed or you may have to go through a few additional steps to add it. Once established, you will receive updates as new Magazine content is added to the site.
