Approach of India's Third General Election

More than 150 million voters are expected to go to the polls in India between Feb. 16 and Feb. 25 to cast ballots in the third general election held in that country since it gained independence after World War II. Final results of what will be the largest free election ever held anywhere will not be known until around March 4. However, it is almost a foregone conclusion that the Congress Party of Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru will emerge victorious, though possibly with a reduced majority in the lower house of Parliament.
