Republicans and Democrats split sharply on virtually every issue voted upon during the session Repassage over the President's veto of the farm loan interest bill was one of the few contested questions on which majorities of both parties in both houses voted on the same side

In the Senate, Republicans voted unanimously—and Democrats nearly three to one—to recommit the President's court plan Other unanimous Republican votes were cast (1) for a two-year limitation on the life of the CCC, (2) for a one-year limitation on the renewal of nuisance taxes, (3) for a $4,000 limitation on dwelling unit costs under the housing bill, (4) against renewal of the President's reciprocal tariff powers All except one of the Republicans voted to recommit the wages and hours bill, and all except two of them opposed it on final passage Republicans were evenly divided on the LaFollette amendment to increase surtaxes; Democrats voted against it nearly two to one Only three Republicans—Capper, Frazier, and Nye—supported the nomination of Senator Black for the Supreme Court.
