Climate Change

Will Biden succeed in imposing controls?

Abstract

As studies show the Earth’s temperatures rising and ice glaciers melting at a faster pace than predicted, President-elect Joe Biden plans to move quickly to reinstitute Obama-era climate change policies and regulations, re-enter the United States in the Paris climate accord and push a $2 trillion plan to expand the use of clean energy. He plans to reverse the Trump administration’s rollbacks of rules on fuel economy standards, oil and gas drilling, coal-fired plants’ emissions and other restrictions that President Trump said overburdened industries. But Biden also will have to negotiate with a potentially divided Congress. Meanwhile, government leaders around the world struggle to reach consensus on how to address climate change.
