Help: Party Control, Split Districts, and Third Parties

Use this page to follow party control in the House, split districts for House and President, and third-party candidates.

Party Control. Compare party control in the House before and after an election. Click through to see party breakdown by number of seats. "Date Range" is required.

Seats that Changed Party. Find House seats held by one party before and another party after an election. Click through to selected race details. "Date Range" is required.

Split District Outcomes. Find congressional districts that gave a majority of votes to the presidential candidate of one party and the House candidate of another party. Note that in some circumstances, such as when states run candidates from all parties on the same ballot, the total Democratic vote here may represent multiple Democratic candidates and the total Republican vote here may represent multiple Republican candidates; that "Other" here aggregates votes for all non-Democratic and non-Republican candidates; and that "Plurality" here is calculated based on these definitions. Click through to selected race details.

Third Parties. Find all third-party candidates. (Note that "third party" is defined here as any party other than the Democratic and Republican parties.) Click through to selected race details. "Date Range" is required.
