Labor Disputes and the Defense Emergency

Strikes and threats of strikes in plants working on government contracts have produced demands, in Congress and elsewhere, that legislation be enacted to provide for compulsory mediation of labor disputes affecting the defense program. Some labor critics have gone so far as to advocate the complete banning of strikes in defense industries or even the introduction of labor conscription to prevent interference with defense production.
