Suspension of the packer consent decree by the Supreme Court of the District of Columbia has prepared the way for an effort in the next Congress to ramose upon the Big Five packers by legislation the restraints from which they would be freed through a final nullification of the decree by the courts.

By the terms of the consent decree the Big Five packers and their subsidiary and affiliated corporations were required:

  1. To dispose of their holdings in put the stock yards, stock yard railroads and terminals.
