Coming General Assembly Debate on China Dispute

Controversy over who shall speak for China in the United Nations—representatives of the Nationalist government who now function in that capacity or representatives of the Communist government who claim the right to do so—will come to a head and may be finally settled during the current session of the General Assembly. On the opening day of the session, Sept. 19, the Assembly, after rejecting resolutions to expel the Nationalists and seat the Communists, decided to set up a special seven-nation committee1 to study the question of Chinese representation.
